Each monocellular organism is represented isolated on a black background. The microscope is able to zoom in further than the human eye could ever see, revealing shapes and textures of a microcosmos. Algae belong to the oldest living species on earth and are responsible for 50% of the total carbon fixation from the atmosphere.

8 Heads High

Scanning electron microscope images showing prepared single algae magnified 5,000 times. Each individual monocellular organism floats isolated against a black background, in the style of traditional portraiture. The microscope reveals a highly detailed image of a microcosm, which the human eye is unable to perceive otherwise.
